Client: Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT)
Description: In 2021, the city of Portland built a bike and pedestrian bridge over the 405 freeway, connecting Flanders Street once again. In the effort to bring a light hearted tone to the pandemic era, PBOT campaigned with city officials to name this new bridge after the Simpson’s best neighbor, Ned Flanders. The Simpson’s creator Matt Groening, Portland native, named his character Ned Flanders after Flanders Street.
Role: Upon Portland city council approval, I was tasked by PBOT to design a plaque to place on the bridge. In conjunction with Matt Groening and his creative team, I designed this famous plaque.
